Following recent auditions, Goldsmiths Choral Union is delighted to announce that from September 2014 William Cole is to be their new Trainee Conductor. The two year appointment will see William shadowing the work of our music staff and having lessons with both Music Director Brian Wright and his Assistant and Accompanist Stephen Jones. He will also be heavily involved in forming and conducting a GCU youth choir in the Kensington and Chelsea area of London, Goldsmiths Young Voices. William Cole, 23, recently graduated in music from Clare College, Cambridge. He’s a singer, cellist, pianist and composer. One of his compositions was broadcast recently by the Britten Sinfonia on BBC Radio 3 and over the summer he’ll be attending the Dartington Conducting Course, having an anthem of his performed at Evensong on 31 July at the Three Choirs Festival and writing a piece for the Polish pianist Piotr Anderszewski. As a conductor, Will was the conducting scholar for CUMS, conductor of the University Symphony Orchestra and of several student choruses. He is currently Graduate Musician in Residence at North London Collegiate School and Choral Director of the Youth Music Centre in North London.
